People Plates Planet

We are a high-school student-led movement aiming to recover surplus food from school campuses and divert it to feed those suffering from hunger. We fight for a sustainable planet and a habitable future by conserving all the water, energy, and resources used in producing the otherwise wasted food into nutritious meals for the community's most vulnerable members.

People Plates Planet was officially launched on Earth Day, April 22, 2022, at Palo Alto High School (Paly). Our launch is featured in Palo Alto Online, and Paly's InFocus News highlighted our operation through People Plates Planet Club. Since then it has expanded to both PAUSD High Schools and become an integral part of campus. Current Presidents are Ria Mirchandani and Aiden Shi

We welcome Gunn High School as the newest chapter of People Plates Planet in Winter 2024 led by Gunn Sophomore Chanew Kim! Working with the Nutritional Services Director at Palo Alto Unified School District, Ms. Alva Spence, all seventeen campuses now practice food recovery!
